Our Story

CalorieBurnCalculator was born from a simple frustration: finding accurate, easy-to-understand calorie burn information was surprisingly difficult. Most calculators were either too basic, hidden behind paywalls, or required complicated apps and subscriptions.

We set out to change that. Starting in 2023, we began building a comprehensive platform that combines scientific accuracy with user-friendly design. Our calculators use the same MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) methodology trusted by researchers and healthcare professionals worldwide.

The Science Behind Our Calculators

Our calorie calculations are based on the MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) system, the gold standard for measuring energy expenditure. MET values represent the energy cost of physical activities as multiples of your resting metabolic rate.

How it works: A MET of 1 represents rest (sitting quietly), while a MET of 10 represents vigorous activity. Running at 6 mph has a MET of approximately 9.8, meaning you burn nearly 10 times more calories than at rest.

Our formula:

Calories = MET × Weight (kg) × Time (hours)

Our MET values come from the Compendium of Physical Activities, a research database maintained by Arizona State University that catalogs the energy costs of hundreds of activities. This ensures our calculations are grounded in real scientific data.
